Twenty eight hundred and one ... miles to Chetumal

A goal is reached....2801 miles and no more road left in front of us, only Belize across the bay.
Yesterday's leg of the journey was a long one, but a much better road. The landscape was beautiful with many "ranchitos"--sugarcane and pineapple growing, cattle and horses grazing, and lakes and rivers stretching out before use. At our lunch stop in Escarcega, we purchased a small, wooden, hand-crafted table from a pretty little girl anxious to sell the wares made by her family. We were stopped three times by the military--sometimes to check inside of "Gloria" and other times just to check our paperwork. At about 6:30, we pulled in to Chetumal at the Yax Ha Campground. As I looked down the drive, I couldn't believe what I saw--another Lazy Daze motorhome! It is owned by Lynn and Dave; originally from California, now Mexican residents for the past 10 years in Guanajuato. Their LD is brown and white, 24 ft. long and new for them 4 years ago. Anyway, we quickly found a spot to park and then tried out the restaurant on site. It is a palapa style building, letting in the soft bay breeze as we enjoyed a delightful meal of shrimp and fish. I thought the Margaritias were the best part after our long travel day...
The view on Sunday from Gloria Kerouac is wonderful in every direction. To the back the bay and sea wall, to the left a beach/swimming area, to the right the cantina with plenty of shade and grass lawn, and to the front more roads to reach out on!

I'd love to see a map of your route. Can you post one?
