Wandering After Dark

Started the day with exploration of The older area of Xcalak. Not much old left - hurricane Jeanette took it out in 1956. A cool breeze put a wrap on our beach scene and Gloria was put on a course inland, with no planned point for arrival. We moved thru beautiful hills that were unexpected ... so much of Yucatan has been flat with very straight roads, then the light of day faded and the narrow road took on a feeling of a tunnel thru lush green . Whenever a truck passed, we were bathed in a the ever present vegatation that seemed as if it would swallow what was left of the road at any moment. Then the Topes would slow us and we would creep thru dimly lit villages and towns on narrow one way streets that were filled with human traffic and sounds of life that seemed all the more foreign in darkness. At a town called Oxkutzcab we found a place to put Gloria away, take time to rest, and write a few words for the blog. The darkness is not a setting that yields good photos... but creates good memories.
