Rainy Ash Wednesday in San Miguel De Allende

We are camped on the edge of town at the Siesta Motel. One camper here is from the states, four others are from Canada. I’m not sure this U.S. guy from South Dakota counts really because he’s been living here the past ten years. ‘Dakota’ tells us we are rare. Press reports of drug violence in Mexico have killed the RV caravan trade. Parks have fewer numbers, and many of those are from Canada. Why is that? Do brutal winters just outweigh the risk of banditos? Hard to imagine any trouble here in San Miguel. Americans by the busloads live here, and the place seems to be prospering.
It was a nice day for walking thru the markets since a soft rain kept falling. We had our only meal of the day in the market ... a big chicken torta for me and a Chorizo & queso torta for Pat. Both of us sat at different stalls convinced we had discovered the best money could buy and had to run over to the other’s stool to share our selections.
After wandering the market for hours we made our way to the Plaza Principal. There we entertained ourselves with watching people. Before leaving we took in the city’s beautiful Church. Ash crosses adorned many a forehead. There were disproportionate numbers of ancient souls coming and going... So much to see in their faces.
